Pre-School Race, Seen Through a Bus Window
Across the street from the Catholic church, five runners
on the empty soccer field:
two boys in white tee shirts neck
and neck
two boys in polos close behind
and one boy
the last boy—
as the sun blooms above the church spire
brightening the field’s green—
skipping
